Hello,
My name is Roger Brown, I live in Fort McCoy, Florida. I am a T-4 Paraplegic due to a motorcycle accident in 1985. I started lifting weights for better health, physical ability and independence while in the wheelchair. After joining a local World's Gym in Ocala, a trainer named Al Ciano who worked there was talking to me and convinced me I could train hard enough and even compete with other wheelchair bodybuilders. So with the help of Al and support from friends and family I started training for wheelchair bodybuilding in July of 1997. I still have a way to go to reach my goal, but, that is what goals are for, something to strive for. In March of 1998, I placed 3rd in the N.P.C. Wheelchair Nationals in West Palm Beach, Fla. in the Masters Men's Over 35 Class. I hope to be in much better shape when I return to the Nationals.

I graduated from Central Florida Community College in Ocala, Florida in December 2000. I received a couple of A.S. Degrees, one in Computer Programming and Applications, the other in Computer Network Engineering..

The Dr. put me on bedrest after an ulcer started 4 years ago. A new Dr. has diagnosed it as stemming from a bone disease that will have to be surgically corrected. For those of that are used to exercising and being active, 4 years on bedrest is driving me nuts! So I will wait and see what is next and can not wait to get back to the gym and working out again.

It is now 2008 and have received my Dr.'s release to begin getting back in the gym and back to working out. I will be working hard to get in the best shape I can be. I will be on a weight lifting program 2 days a week and doing aerobic hand cycling (bicycle pedals mounted on a wall with a tension adjuster) 4 days a week for my cardio program. The goal of my cardio program is to help maximize fat loss by doing my workout at 65-70% of my max. heartrate for 45 - 60 minutes. I have a long road ahead to reach my goals after being bedridden for the last 4 years with NO exercise allowed. My bodyfat % is up a lot higher than I would like, but that is one of the areas my trainer and I are going to work on as well as getting as big and ripped as I can. I still have a great support network in place with Julie my wife and best friend, Laura my daughter, Mr. USA - Mr. John DeFendis, Robbie Aratari, and all the great competitors I know in the NPC Wheelchair Division.  Many thanks and my appreciation go out to everyone who has kept in touch and wishing me a fast recovery.
